sticker shock, the book edition
I bused into Malmö today where you can not escape Reese Witherspoon's chin aimed at you from countless advertisements. Here she is at the Malmö Central bus stop getting her face washed.
Eventually I made my way to a bookstore. I was hoping to find something (in English) I could read to the kids. The bookstore I found DID have a wide selection in English but then sticker shock reared its ugly head again. A simple small mass market paperback is priced at 108 SEK (currently about $16 USD). Yeee-ouch. Some larger "trade" paperbacks started at around $21 and went up from there. Oof. (And yeah, so far the local library isn't exactly chock-a-block with "independent reader"-age books in English.)
